BODY AND CARNALITY IN RUSSIAN FEMALE PROSE OF EARLY 20TH CENTURY

The article is dedicated to the human body in Russian female prose of the early 20th century. The works of Lidiia Zinov'eva-Annibal (1866-1907), Evdokiya Nagrodskaya (1866-1930), A. Mire (1874-1913) Nadezhda Sanzhar (1875-1933), and Anna Mar (1887-1917) are discussed. Analysis of these texts allows to believe that the basic qualities of this prose are: wealth of somatic motives, conviction that the character of bodily experiences determines life, courage in breaking moral taboos in contemporary culture, and significantly clear tendency towards stressing the female self into the body and a separate talking entity. The physical body and its biological assessment are usually valued negatively and treated in opposition to the spiritual element.
