The article describes modern methods of log debarking using drum debarkers. Solutions minimizing wood loss during debarking and methods of debarking to achieve a high degree of log cleanliness have been presented. Currently drum debarking has been developed into a process where logs are fed continuously into the drum and also discharged continuously from the drum by adjusting the discharge gate position. The article describes modern solutions of Valmet, Andritz, Progress Industries Inc., Timber Automation and Pallmann of drum debarkers.
