The author draws his attention to the consequences of globalization and integration processes that place new requirements on transport. These new requirements on transport call for changes in transport division of labour and thus a fast grow of some kinds of transport only. This, on one hand, causes congestion of a particular transport infrastructure. On the other hand, however, such kinds of transport grow quickly that harm the environment most of all, which will be hardly bearable in a long time horizon. This concerns not only the European Union but also the Czech Republic. Overcrowded airports and motorways and the fear of Planet warming up make the European Commission turn their attention back to the motorway, above all to the fast one able to compete with planes to the distance of 800 km. The author mentions a rapid progress in building of high-speed railway lines in fifteen of EU member states, mainly in France and Germany, and points out the risks resulting from the delayed building of high-speed lines in the Czech Republic. There is a danger for the CR to become a territory to which high-speed lines could avoid. This might cause a drop in the country competitiveness. That is why the author puts emphasis on making up for the delay in high-speed lines construction. Another remarkable problem can be seen in the fact that logistic infrastructure in the CR currently meets and continues to meet the motorway and road network only. Such situation is not sustainable from a long-term standpoint and a shift of part of goods flows back to the railway is unavoidable. The author therefore recommends that the development of the network of public logistic centers from the public means should be supported. A support of public logistic centers arising may result in optimum conditions for railway or possibly inland water transport involvement.
