Application of the Pareto analysis for the description of faults and failures of marine medium power engines with self ignition

This work attempts at a description of faults and failures of marine medium power engines by means of the Pareto analysis. The analysis is based on an empirically found regularity that in nature, engineering, human activities, etc. usually 20-30 % of causes (factors) produces about 70-80 % of the effects. The description of this relationship may help indicate primary causes of engine faults and will allow to take appropriate preventive measures to facilitate personnel work in hard conditions at sea.
