The paper is an attempt to answer the question: what options and ways we have to realize the tasks in crisis management imposed on local self-government? Today, crisis management is a very important area in the theory and practice of security. To be prepared for emergency situations, local selfgovernment bodies prepare risk scenarios and keep working on the ways to solve them. This paperdeals with crisis management structures on the local level. It also contains information about people protection, and rescue operations, planning, preparing and realizing activities. The problems presented are illustrated by examples of practical solutions in our country and abroad, e.g. in New York. Problems of .crisis management. are relatively new. It was only at the end of last century that people began to talk about building a modern management system in emergency situations (disasters). This is the reason why the author does not give us uncompromising answers to the questions put forward. The problems presented do not indicate all possibilities and ways how local self-government bodies should realize crisis management tasks. The author wants to establish groundwork for future discussion. He also wants to provoke symposium participants for deeper reflection on this problem.
