Abrasive wear of sinters based on Fe-40Al phase
Abrasive wear tests of Fe-Al based in sinter/steel couples were conducted using pin-on disc method. Abrasive wear resistance was determined by two ways: by continuous measurement of pin length change and by sample loss weight measurement. Measurement points were approximated by linear function for every technological variant for the both measurement methods. The correlation coefficients were calculated and treated as an estimation of material homogeneity or material cohesion for linear wear or loss weight, respectively. After wear testing, roughness of sample and counter face was displayed by Ra3D and Rmax3D parameters of three-dimensional roughness profile. The influence of content and morphology of aluminium oxides and heterogeneity of matrix structure, treated as a main factors determining abrasive wear resistance of investigated sintered alloys as well results of SEM analysis of wear traces were discussed too. It was found that, increasing value of loading frequency increased abrasive wear resistance of investigated sinters. The "60Hz" technological variant possesses about six times higher wear abrasive resistance then sample sintered under static load. It was because application of cyclic loading improved homogeneity and cohesion of intermetallic sinters.
