The paper presents the solutions applied in France for treatment of materials containing asbestos. These materials are classified into two kinds: "soft" and "hard". The treatment process starts with site investigation and evaluation of asbestos materials. French legislation requires monitoring the status of materials containing asbestos. The paper presents also the techniques pertaining for asbestos concentration measurement, and treatment methods for "soft" and "hard" materials with asbestos. In France the plasma treatment method - along with wastes' storage - is the main method for treatment of asbestos materials.
