Logistyka miejska została wykreowana w wyniku dużego zainteresowania miastem, jako systemem logistycznym oraz procesami i przepływami, jakie na jego terenie zachodzą, stanowi więc narzędzie rozwiązywania problemów funkcjonowania obszarów zurbanizowanych, takich jak aglomeracje miejskie. Współczesne miasta charakteryzują się mnogością przepływów strumieni logistycznych oraz są obszarem, w którym możemy zastosować zasady systemowego myślenia w celu usprawnienia i uatrakcyjnienia życia mieszkańców, odciążenia od negatywnych skutków współczesnej działalności jednostek gospodarczych i zwiększenia konkurencyjności ekonomicznej danego terenu.

One of the most famous definitions of logistic was created by the Counsil of Logistics Management. This term was defined as the process of planning, realization and checking effective and economically efficient flow of raw, production materials, final products and suitable information from the creation point to the consumption point to meet customer requirements. The city logistic concept grew according to well logistic, fixed rules, these are: coordination of activities, comprehensive approach, orientation to the flows and looking at it globally. The city logistic has been created as a result of large interest of a city as a logistic system and the processes and flows that occur on its area. Therefore, it is a tool for solving problems of urban areas functioning such as urban gglomerations. Contemporary cities are characterized by a multiplicity of the logistic stream flow and they are the area, where we can apply the rules of system thinking in order to modify and improve citizens’ level of life and reduce negative effects of modern business activities and to rise the economic competitiveness of this area.
