Jan Gotlib Bloch (1836-1902) was an outstanding financier and industrialist, one of railway construction pioneers in the Congress Kingdom of Poland and Russian Empire, hence the nickname of the king of Polish railways. He co-founded such financial institutions of the Congress Kingdom as Bank Handlowy (Commercial Bank) in Warsaw or Towarzystwo Kredytowe miasta Warszawy (Credit Association of the City of Warsaw). For many years he held the position of the Chairman of the Warsaw Stock Exchange. He founded the first in Poland Statistical Office31. He wrote numerous scientific papers and studies concerning railways, finances, credits and economy. What did this great financier have in common with the art of war? Much because this professed pacifist left a monumental work in which he presented a most detailed in Polish literature material including military issues and the most profound lecture on the history of idea and futurist vision of the 20th century.
