Ustawa o przejrzystości wpływów zagranicznych. Cywilizacyjna i geopolityczna walka w Gruzji i o Gruzję
Recently Georgia once again became a site for ideological and geopolitical clashes. In this instance, the Law on Transparency of Foreign Influ ence, adopted by the ruling majority of Georgian parliament was the trigger. The opposition and Georgian civil society activists nicknamed this law the „Russian Law,” since it lays down legal ground for pressure and intimidation of non-governmental and independent media organizations as has happened in Russia since at least 2012. Tens of thousands of Georgians took to the streets for protest rallies in Tbilisi and the other cities, but the Authorities ignored their pleas and instead employed riot police against the protesters. The adoption of this law also showed that the Georgian government and its shadow patron, the billionaire Ivanishvili, has decided to distance itself from the West and ally with authoritarian regimes. Brussels has warned that the law would undermine the forthcoming opening of the negotiations on Georgia’s EU membership, yet Georgian officials have refused to compromise.
