Autor podejmuje dyskusję z poglądem kwestionującym istnienie w polskiej historiografii szkoły Mariana Małowista (1909-1988). Dorobek grupy uczonych skupionych wokół tego badacza omawia na tle różnych definicji szkoły historycznej, formułowanych w historiografii. Następnie dokonuje przeglądu badań mistrza i trzech kolejnych grup jego uczniów, począwszy od pierwszej publikacji M. Małowista w 1931 r. po czasy współczesne. Autor wskazuje na główne cechy warsztatu omawianej grupy, na założenia teoretyczne, stosowane metody badawcze i podejmowaną problematykę, opisuje ewolucję badań, przechodzenie od historii gospodarczej do historii kultury, szczególnie zjawisk masowych, mentalności i postaw grup społecznych.

The author starts discussions with a view questioning the existence in Polish historiography of a school of Marian Małowist (1909-1988). He discusses the achievements of a group of historians gathered around him, presenting them against the backdrop of different definitions of historical school formulated in historiography. Next, he reviews the research by the Master and three consecutive groups of his students, starting from the first publication of Marian Małowist in 1931 to the present times. The author points to the main features of the historical research methodology of the analysed group, their theoretical foundations, research methods and historical issues they studied; he describes an evolution of their research from economic history to history of culture, especially mass phenomena, mentality and attitudes of social groups.
