Kwalifikacja do opieki paliatywnej pacjentów leczonych przeszczepieniem komórek krwiotwórczych

Usually, the care of patients who undergo hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) is focused on intensive, acute, curative care. However, given that some clinical situation (e.g. graft failure, serious non-curative transplant related complications, recurrent disease following HSCT, extensive form of graft versus host disease) has a poor prognosis, a focus on acute intensive care alone appears inappropriate. Care for this group of patients should be more inclusive of principles that underpin palliative care. This paper presents attempting to integrate two completely separate departments of medicine and provides indications for palliative care in patients treated with hematopoietic cell transplantation.
