Looking for alterities: Gerard de Nerval in the Orient.

Dans notre étude, nous analysons le Voyage en Orient (1851) Gérard .de Nerval, écrivain romantique français. Le narrateur de l’œuvre porte une attention particulière à toutes les formes de la privation de liberté. Ainsi, dans notre étude nous présentons l'image des femmes opprimées et des prisonniers du monde oriental. En même temps, nous mettons en évidence le paradoxe qui apparaît dans la vision de l'Orient, le héros nervalien découvre que certaines valeurs appréciées en Europe, sont beaucoup mieux mises en pratique en Orient qu'en Occident. Il arrive à remettre en doute les certitudes européennes et lutter contre les stéréotypes injustes concernant les sociétés levantines. Le Voyage en Orient annonce certaines notions-clés de l’esthétique nervalienne, tels que le délire, le dédoublement de la personnalité et la relation entre le rêve, l'hallucination et le délire. Le présent mémoire s'appuie sur les interprétations critiques de M.Brixa, G.Chamarat, J.Bony i H. Mizumo.

Niniejsza praca magisterska ma na celu analizę Podróży na Wschód (1851) Gerarda de Nervala, francuskiego pisarza romantycznego. Narrator utworu przywiązuje szczególną uwagę do tematyki pozbawienia wolności. W naszej rozprawie prezentujemy obraz uciśnionych kobiet arabskich i więźniów świata orientalnego. Jednocześnie, wykazujemy paradoks dostrzeżony przez narratora: pewne wartości europejskie, takie jak wolność, równość czy tolerancja są lepiej realizowane na Wschodzie niż na Zachodzie. Narrator podważa utrwalone opinie Europejczyków na temat społeczeństw Orientu. Praca wykazuje też, że Podróż na Wschód zapowiada pewne kluczowe motywy twórczości Nervala, takie jak szaleństwo, sen, sobowtór, synkretyzm religijny, etc. Niniejsza rozprawa opiera się głównie na studiach M.Brixa, G.Chamarat, J.Bony i H. Mizumo.

In our study, we analyze the Voyage en Orient (1851) of G.de Nervala, French romantic writer. The narrator pays particular attention on all the forms of deprivation of liberty so that we present the vision of oppressed muslim women and prisoners of Eastern world . At the same time, we highlight a paradox : some European values like the tolerance, the liberty or the equality are better put into practice in the Orient than in the Occident. The protagonist of Nerval call into question some European certitudes and fight against stereotypes unfair concerning Levantine societies. We also analyze some key concepts of Nerval works, for example: delirium, split personality and the relationship between dreams,hallucinations and delirium. This study is based on the critical interpretations of M.Brix, G.Chamarat, J.Bony and H. Mizumo.
