Wiktor Hugo, "poeta nieznany"? Analiza polskich przekładów poezji Wiktora Hugo w okresie od 1830 do 1860

Wiktor Hugo znany jest w Polsce przede wszystkim jako powieściopisarz, autor Nędzników. Mimo iż jego poezja należy do najważniejszych dzieł literatury francuskiej, to wydaje się, iż została one pominięta przez polskich tłumaczy. Pierwsze antologie pojawiają się dopiero po latach pięćdziesiątych dwudziestego wieku , a ze względu na ideologię komunistyczną, której zostały podporządkowana przez tłumacza, Zbigniewa Bieńkowskiego, nie sprzyjały popularności poezji Wiktora Hugo w Polsce. W niniejszej pracy pragniemy zbadać źródło niewielkiego zainteresowania jego poezją wśród polskich tłumaczy. W tym celu postanowiliśmy przeanalizować krajobraz polskich przekładów poezji hugoliańskiej w okresie od 1830 do 1860 roku, czyli trzydziestu lat od pojawienia się pierwszego tłumaczenia poezji tego poety w Polsce. Praca jest podzielona na dwie części – (1) recepcję tłumaczeń w oparciu o teorię polisystemów (Itamar Even-Zohar) oraz (2) analizę wybranych tłumaczeń przeprowadzoną w ramach perspektywy hermeneutycznej (Antoine Berman, Stanisław Barańczak i Jerzy Brzozowski).

Victor Hugo is known in Poland mostly as novelist, author of les Misérables. Despite the importance of his poetry in France, the polish translators seemed to neglect it. The first anthologies were published just after the 50’s of twentieth century, but they were used by Zbigniew Bieńkowski, translator, to serve the communist ideology, which did not help the promotion of Victor Hugo’s poetry in Poland. In this study we examine the reasons for such slight interest in his poetic work showed by polish translators. For that purpose we will analyse the landscape of polish translations of the poet’s work during the period form 1830 to 1860, that is thirty years from the first translation published in Poland. The study is divided into two parts : (1) the reception of translations within the framework of the theory of polysystems (Itamar Even-Zohar) and (2) the analysis of chosen translations according to the principles of hermeneutics (Antoine Berman, Stanisław Barańczak and Jerzy Brzozowski).

Victor Hugo est avant tout connu en Pologne en tant que romancier, auteur des Misérables. Malgré la grande importance en France, son immense œuvre poétique semble être complètement omise par les traducteurs polonais. Les premières anthologies ne sortent qu’après les années cinquante du vingtième siècle, mais, à cause de l'idéologie communiste à laquelle Zbigniew Bieńkowski, le traducteur, les faisait servir, elles n'ont pas favorisé la popularité de Victor Hugo poète en Pologne. Dans notre étude, nous voudrions donc examiner le phénomène du peu d’intérêt chez les traducteurs polonais pour sa poésie. Dans ce but, nous avons décidé d'analyser le paysage des traductions polonaises de la poésie hugolienne durant la période de 1830 à 1860, c'est-à-dire les trente ans depuis la parution de la première traduction hugolienne en Pologne. Notre étude est divisée en deux parties : (1) la réception des traductions dans le cadre de la théorie des polysystèmes (Itamar Even-Zohar) et (2) l’analyse des traductions choisies faite dans le cadre de la perspective herméneutique (Antoine Berman, Stanisław Barańczak et Jerzy Brzozowski).
