Muzułmańskie tradycje pogrzebowe jako element sztuki oswajania człowieka ze śmiercią.

The presented study focuses on the scope of issues related to Muslim funeral traditions and their impact on perceptions of death in the Muslim culture. Analysis of the above matter is preceded by a presentation of the characteristics of the Western and the Eastern religions and their response to the phenomenon of death. In order to understand the position assumed by Muslims towards death, an overview of the eschatology of Islam, confronted with the assumptions of biblical eschatology. The main part of the work is devoted to the practices and rituals of funeral and it consist of both their description and analysis in terms of approach to dying. It should be noted that the presented study is not to confined to the rituals associated with the burial. The author also discusses the question of mourning and Muslim cemetery art and culture.

Zasadniczym problemem badawczym podejmowanym w niniejszej pracy są muzułmańskie tradycje pogrzebowe i ich wpływ na percepcję śmierci w kulturze muzułmańskiej. Analiza wyżej wymienionego zagadnienia została poprzedzona przedstawieniem charakterystyki religii zachodnich i wschodnich oraz ich ustosunkowania się do zjawiska śmierci. W celu zrozumienia przyjmowanego przez muzułmanów stanowiska wobec śmierci, ukazany został przegląd eschatologii islamu, skonfrontowany z założeniami eschatologii biblijnej. Zasadnicza część pracy poświęcona jest porządkowi praktyk i rytuałów pogrzebowych i stanowi zarówno ich opis jak i analizę pod kątem podejścia do kwestii umierania. Należy podkreślić, że praca nie ogranicza się jedynie do obrzędowości związanej z pogrzebem. Autorka porusza również temat żałoby oraz muzułmańskiej sztuki i kultury cmentarnej.
