The images of women-ghosts in selected Japanese literary works

In dissertation some examples of images of women ghosts in Japanese literature were presented. The first chapter explains basic terminology connected with ghosts in Japanese religions such as Buddhism and Shinto. Main theories on ghosts by Japanese folklore researchers were also discussed. The major part of the thesis is devoted to selected images of women ghosts based on classical and contemporary literary works, including legends, amazing tales, manga and movie scripts of feature films and anime. The next chapters show the particular reasons, why the ghosts return after death. The second chapter tells story about the ghosts of mothers, whose children are still alive. The third chapter describes women ghosts who appear due to the strong feeling to the alive man. Finally, in the last chapter there were presented vindictive ghosts, who appear because of the injustice they experience before death.

W pracy przedstawione zostały przykłady wizerunków duchów kobiet w japońskiej literaturze. W pierwszym rozdziale wyjaśniono podstawowe kwestie terminologiczne związane z duchami w japońskich wierzeniach buddyjskich i shintoistycznych. Omówiono również najważniejsze teorie badaczy japońskiego folkloru dotyczące duchów. Główna część pracy poświęcona jest wybranym wizerunkom duchów kobiet na podstawie klasycznych i współczesnych utworów literackich, takich jak legendy, opowieści niesamowite, mangi oraz scenariusze filmów fabularnych i animowanych. Kolejne rozdziały ukazują konkretne przyczyny, dla których duchy kobiet wracają po śmierci. Drugi rozdział opowiada historię duchów matek, których dzieci żyją. W trzecim rozdziale przedstawiono duchy kobiet, ukazujące się z powodu uczucia, które żywią do żywego mężczyzny. Natomiast w ostatnim rozdziale zaprezentowano mściwe duchy, które pojawiają się z powodu wyrządzonej im przed śmiercią krzywdy.
