Selected customs in the Far East on the example of China and Japan

Celem pracy jest omówienie wybranych obyczajów Chin i Japonii oraz zbadanie, czy i w jakim stopniu kultury dwóch najbardziej wpływowych krajów Dalekiego Wschodu przenikają się wzajemnie, ze wskazaniem najważniejszych różnic i podobieństw pomiędzy nimi. Problematyka dotyczy zagadnień związanych z Chinami oraz Japonią. Praca dzieli się na trzy rozdziały poprzedzone wstępem, a wieńczy ją zakończenie oraz spis wykorzystanej literatury. Pierwszy z rozdziałów przedstawia krótki zarys historii Chin i Japonii. Opisuje między innymi takie aspekty jak formowanie się władzy w danym kraju, kształtowanie się kultury i świadomości społecznej. Omawia najważniejsze dogmaty filozoficzne i religijne. Wskazuje, jaka filozofia stanowi podstawy światopoglądu mieszkańców obu krajów, która religia jest w nich dominująca. Obrazuje też źródła wierzeń. Rozdział drugi przedstawia kwestie wiary i religijności w Chinach, ale również omawia przesądy i symbole charakterystyczne dla kraju, opisuje tradycje obowiązujące domowników podczas codziennych czynności takich jak jedzenie przy stole, mówi krótko o ceremonii parzenia herbaty. Opisuje także wybrane chińskie święta. Trzeci rozdział poświęcony jest obyczajowości Japonii. Charakteryzuje wierzenia i religię Japończyków. Przedstawia najważniejsze przesądy i symbole, święta, a także zasady, jakie powinny być zachowane w trakcie posiłków i w trakcie ceremonii herbaty.

The aim of the dissertation is to analyze selected customs of China and Japan and to investigate, whether and to what extent the cultures of the two most influential countries of the Far East interpenetrate with an indication of the most important differences and similarities between them. The work is divided into three chapters, preceded by an introduction. It ends with a summary and bibliography of the literature used. The first chapter presents a brief outline of the history of China and Japan. It describes such aspects as the formation of power in a given country, the formation of culture and social awareness. It presents the most important philosophical and religious dogmas. It indicates which philosophy is most important for the inhabitants of both countries, which religion is dominant, and what are the sources of people’s beliefs. The second chapter problematizes faith and religiosity in China. It analyzes superstitions and symbols representative for the country, traditions dominant in everyday activities (such as typical behavior at the table or the tea ceremony). It also describes selected Chinese festivals. The third chapter is devoted to selected customs of Japan. It characterizes the beliefs and religion of the Japanese. It presents the most important superstitions and symbols, celebrations, as well as principles, which should be cultivated during meals and during the tea ceremony.
