The mask of vampire and its function in films

The aim of the following thesis is an analysis of the transformation that the vampire character has undergone over the years - starting from the prototype, as well as the functions performed by vampires shown in the cinema nowadays. The author conducted an analysis based on selected films, from the first cinema adaptations to the modern vampire tales. Due to the number of positions in the related filmography, the area of ​​research has been narrowed down to films that are classics of "vampire" stories, as well as films that may be less known to a wider audience, but important from a research point of view. The first chapter of the thesis presents the historical outline of the creation of the characters, as well as the legend of Vlad Dracula. The second chapter of the thesis is devoted to the analysis of selected films. The last, third chapter summarizes performed analysis and presents the author's conclusions.

Celem pracy jest analiza transformacji, jaki na przestrzeni lat przechodziła postać wampira – począwszy od pierwowzoru postaci, a także funkcji, jakie współcześnie spełniają pokazywane w kinie wampiry. Autor przeprowadził analizę na podstawie wybranych dzieł filmowych, od pierwszych adaptacji kinowych po współczesne opowieści o wampirach. Ze względu na obszerność materiału filmowego obszar badań został zawężony do filmów stanowiących klasykę „wampirycznych” opowieści, jak również filmów być może mniej znanych szerszej publiczności, ale ważnych z badawczego punktu widzenia. W pierwszym rozdziale pracy przybliżono zarys historyczny powstania postaci, jak również omówiono legendę o Vladzie Draculi. Drugi rozdział pracy poświęcony jest analizie wybranych dzieł filmowych. W ostatnim, trzecim rozdziale dokonano podsumowania owej analizy i zaprezentowano wnioski autora pracy.
