Lunar mansions - analysis of the names of asterisms in the Sogdian language on the background of the mythology of the Iranian world and other ancient languages.

This master thesis presents an analysis of Sogdian lunar mansion names, which were used in the Iranian world. It further discusses the names of asterisms in other languages, such as Chinese, Arabic, and Indian. The paper identifies problems related to the location of the mansions, by analyzing the history of astronomy, and the first human attempts at observing the sky. The presented interpretation of Sogdian names is based on the analysis of dictionaries and ancient mythology, touching on the structure and meaning of the given words, and comparing them to other Iranian languages.

Niniejsza praca przede wszystkim podejmuje próbę analizy sogdyjskich nazw stacji księżycowych, które były wykorzystywane w świecie irańskim, a także porusza temat nazw asteryzmów w innych językach takich jak chiński, arabski czy indyjski. Analizując historię astronomii i pierwsze próby obserwacji nieba określone zostają w niniejszej pracy problemy dotyczące położenia stacji. Interpretacja nazw sogdyjskich przedstawiona jest na podstawie analizy słowników i starożytnej mitologii przyglądając się budowie oraz znaczeniu podanych słów porównując je do innych języków irańskich.
