The Female Star Warrior. The character study of Leia, Padmé, and Rey from Star Wars in relation to feminism and its four waves.

The following thesis examines the character of the three main Star Wars heroines -- Leia Organa, Padmé Amidala, and Rey -- in relation to feminism and the concept of the four feminist waves. The dissertation aims to prove that the three Star Wars film trilogies include a substantial number of feminist themes. Moreover, it also intends to raise awareness of the importance of female perspective and female voices to the heavily influential cinema of the United States. The first chapter provides definitions of such crucial notions as feminism, agency, representation; it also explains the concept of the four feminist waves, and lists the most important characteristics of each wave. Lastly, it compiles general information about the representation of women in the American cinema from the 1970s until today. Chapter two elaborates on the purpose of this study and presents the main research questions; it also includes a review of selected bibliographical sources, the methodology, and the reasons for the relevancy of this study. The third chapter presents the practical character analysis of Leia, Padmé, and Rey. The last chapter summarises the specific findings, as well as proposes several suggestions for future research.

Niniejsza praca poddaje analizie trzy główne kobiece postaci Gwiezdnych Wojen: Leię Organę, Padmé Amidalę oraz Rey w odniesieniu do feminizmu i jego czterech fal. Celem pracy jest udowodnienie, iż trzy filmowe trylogie Gwiezdnych Wojen zawierają w sobie znaczną ilość motywów feministycznych. Ponadto, praca zwraca uwagę na znaczenie kobiecych perspektyw oraz kobiecych głosów w wyjątkowo wpływowym kinie amerykańskim. Pierwszy rozdział przedstawia definicje tak istotnych pojęć jak feminizm, sprawczość, wizerunek, jak również wyjaśnia koncept czterech fal feminizmu i prezentuje najważniejsze cechy każdej z fal. Rozdział ten zawiera także ogólne informacje o wizerunku kobiet w amerykańskim kinie od lat siedemdziesiątych do teraźniejszości. Drugi rozdział przedstawia cel niniejszej pracy oraz główne pytania badawcze; zawiera on także recenzję wybranych źródeł, metodologię oraz powody dla znaczenia tej pracy w poszczególnych obszarach naukowych. Trzeci rozdział stanowi analizę postaci Lei, Padmé oraz Rey. Rozdział ostatni podsumowuje poszczególne wnioski, a także przedstawia kilka sugestii przyszłych badań.
