This thesis examines the complex connections between drug trafficking, crime, and violence in Mexico. Titled "The Nexus of Drug Trafficking, Crime, and Violence - The Case of Mexico," the study aims to understand the intricate relationships and impacts of these phenomena on Mexican society.A comprehensive literature review is conducted to explore relevant theoretical frameworks, empirical studies, and case studies specific to Mexico. Drawing upon interdisciplinary perspectives from criminology, sociology, political science, and international relations, the research offers a comprehensive understanding of the subject matter.Using qualitative and quantitative research methods, the study analyses data to provide nuanced insights into the drug trade's effects in Mexico. It investigates the economic incentives driving drug trafficking, the organisational structures of cartels, and the law enforcement strategies employed to combat the issue. Additionally, the research explores the social and cultural dimensions of drug trafficking, focusing on its consequences for local communities, public health, and overall societal well-being.It investigates the escalating violence associated with the drug trade, including intra-cartel conflicts, territorial disputes, and interactions between cartels and state security forces. Furthermore, the study explores the spillover effects of violence, such as kidnappings, extortion, and human trafficking.The findings of this research contribute to a deeper understanding of the interconnectedness between drug trafficking, crime, and violence in Mexico. The study highlights the underlying causes of these issues and the challenges Mexican authorities face in addressing them effectively.
