Resistance in front of the TV. The art of failure in Świat Według Kiepskich in the face of the political transformation of 1989

W niniejszej pracy przyglądam się Światu według Kiepskich i analizuję porażki, jakie ponoszą bohaterowie serialu w obliczu przemian ustrojowych i społecznych, które miały miejsce w Polsce po roku 1989. Celem pracy jest prześledzenie nowych formy podmiotowości oraz narracji, wyłaniających się z potransformacyjnego dyskursu i zastanowienie się, w jaki sposób klęski bohaterów przechwytują je i wywracają. Odnoszę się do koncepcji „porażki” wypracowanej przez Jacka Halberstama oraz do kategorii „normalności” opisywanej przez Magdę Szcześniak. Czerpię również z badań Elizabeth Dunn i wykorzystuję aparat teoretyczny Pierre’a Bourdieu oraz stawiam pytanie o wywrotowość struktury sitcomu w obliczu neoliberalnego paradygmatu.

In this thesis, I look at Świat według Kiepskich and analyze the failures of the characters in the series in face of the sociopolitical changes that took place in Poland after 1989. The purpose of this thesis is to trace the new forms of subjectivity and narratives emerging from the post-transformational discourse and to consider how the characters’ failures reclaim and subvert them. I refer to the concept of “failure” developed by Jack Halberstam and to the category of “normality” described by Magda Szcześniak. I also draw from the research of Elizabeth Dunn and use Pierre Bourdieu’s theoretical apparatus and pose the question of the subversiveness of the sitcom structure in face of the neoliberal paradigm.
