Critical analysis of cultural expressions in the Polish translation of Elisabeth Åsbrinks "Orden som formade Sverige"

Niniejsza praca dotyczy problematyki przekładu elementów kulturowych oraz metod tłumaczeniowych wykorzystywanych w przekładzie tekstów nacechowanych kulturowo. W pierwszym rozdziale zaprezentowane zostają sylwetki autorki i tłumaczki oraz odbiór tekstu w Szwecji i Polsce. Rozdział teoretyczny prezentuje różne definicje pojęcia „kulturemu” oraz strategie tłumaczeniowe wykorzystywane do ich przekładu. W głównej części pracy analizie zostaje poddana książka Elisabeth Åsbrink Orden som formade Sverige oraz jej polski przekład Made in Sweden. 60 słów, które stworzyły naród wykonany przez Natalię Kołaczek – analizowane są zastosowane przez tłumaczkę metody i ich wyniki w polskim przekładzie. Wreszcie, w ostatnim rozdziale omówione zostają wyniki pracy i podsumowanie.

This thesis deals with the issue of translation of cultural elements and methods used in the translation of culturally significant texts. The first chapter presents the profiles of the author and translator and the reception of the text in Sweden and Poland. The theoretical chapter presents various definitions of the concept of 'cultureme' and the translating strategies used to translate them. The main part of the study analyses Elisabeth Åsbrink's book "Orden som formade Sverige" and its Polish translation "Made in Sweden. 60 słów, które stworzyły naród" by Natalia Kołaczek - the methods used by the translator and their results in the Polish translation are analysed. Lastly, the final chapter discusses the results of the work and provides a conclusion.
