Penal populism - an attempt to assess the phenomenon

The purpose of this thesis is to make a multifaceted characterization of penal populism as a phenomenon and the author's attempt to evaluate it.The first chapter presents a definition of penal populism and its genesis as a phenomenon. It is also described as a social attitude.The second chapter is an introduction to the sources of penal populism - the role of communication of the judiciary with society and the media. In addition, its main functions and features are indicated.The subject of the third chapter is penal populism in political discourse - the manifestations of its presence, the main designators and the tools of its expression in the sphere of public and media communication.The fourth chapter attempts a synthesis in the assessment of the phenomenon of penal populism and its impact on social life and the functioning of the general public, based on all the distinctions made earlier.The conclusion contains the final conclusions summarizing all the described issues.

Celem pracy jest dokonanie wielopłaszczyznowej charakterystyki populizmu penalnego jako zjawiska oraz autorska próba jego oceny.W rozdziale pierwszym przedstawiona została definicja populizmu penalnego oraz jego geneza jako zjawiska. Opisano go także jako postawę społeczną.Rozdział drugi to przybliżenie źródeł populizmu penalnego - roli komunikacji wymiaru sprawiedliwości ze społeczeństwem oraz mediów. Ponadto wskazano jego główne funkcje i cechy.Przedmiotem rozdziału trzeciego jest populizm penalny w dyskursie politycznym - przejawy jego obecności, główne desygnaty oraz narzędzia jego wyrazu w sferze przekazu publicznego i medialnego.W rozdziale czwartym podjęto próbę syntezy w zakresie oceny zjawiska populizmu penalnego i jego wpływu na życie społeczne oraz funkcjonowanie ogółu, opartej na wszystkich dokonanych wcześniej rozróżnieniach.Zakończenie zawiera wnioski końcowe podsumowujące wszystkie opisywane zagadnienia.
