The Forgotten Director. Krystyna Meissner in the National Old Theatre. The article’s aim is to take a closer look at the tenure of Krystyna Meissner in the National Old Theatre in Cracow during the 1997/1998 season. Meissner has been this far the only female director of this institution. Despite of this, her tenure remains largely forgotten, as it ended after only one season, due to the opposition of the artists as well as technical crews. The article analyses this situation – which has been reconstructed based on the press materials and interviews – as an example of censorship intervention, where censored were the director’s programme and the managerial vision. It is crucial to highlight, what kind of influence did the economic, legal and institutional changes resulting from the system transformation have on the behaviour of people partaking in that conflict.
