Between canon and archive : the memory of communism in the recollections of Polish mountaineers

Collective memory and commemorative practices undertaken in mountaineering communities are not a frequent subject of scholarly dissertations. The aforementioned practices, diverse in nature and means of expression, are often used unconsciously in these circles and are devoid of a wider goal of influence. This article presents, from the example of the Kraków High Mountaineering Club, ways of representing various types of memory (individual, generational, collective and cultural), concerning the communist times. The possibility of a current reinterpretation of the collective memory of the mountaineering community, influenced by the exposure of archival data from the period of activity of the Kraków High Mountaineering Club before 1989, was also examined.

Pamięć zbiorowa i praktyki upamiętniające podejmowane w środowiskach alpinistycznych nie są częstym tematem rozpraw naukowych. Wspomniane praktyki, zróżnicowane pod względem charakteru i środków wyrazu, często stosowane są w tych środowiskach nieświadomie i pozbawione są szerszego celu oddziaływania. Niniejszy artykuł przedstawia, na przykładzie Klubu Wysokogórskiego Kraków, sposoby reprezentacji różnych rodzajów pamięci (indywidualnej, pokoleniowej, zbiorowej i kulturowej), dotyczących okresu PRL. Autor artykułu podejmuje ponadto problem aktualnej reinterpretacji pamięci zbiorowej środowiska alpinistycznego pod wpływem ekspozycji danych archiwalnych z okresu działalności Klubu Wysokogórskiego Kraków przed 1989 rokiem.
