The status of dialect eighty years later (on the example of eastern frontier dialect)
The article discusses the linguistic properties of the dialect of Poland’s present-day eastern frontier in comparing the status recorded in a dialectal text from 1928 with the dialect’s contemporary state of preservation. An analysis was made which showed strong links of the dialect in question with the historical Polish language and the statuses of Polish heartland dialects. The small recorded number of features influenced by the Ukrainian language and dialects has increased over the half-century. Still, it has not affected the main developmental trend of the eastern frontier dialect, which is leaning toward standard Polish.
