W artykule zaprezentowano proces ewolucji funkcji gospodarki magazynowej na przykładzie sektora hutniczego. Część teoretyczna artykułu powstała na podstawie studium literaturowego. Analiza typu case study jest rezultatem przeglądu historycznego rozwoju gospodarki magazynowej w hutach (analiza wtórnych źródeł informacji). Ujęcie praktyczne ma charakter komparatywny, co pozwoliło na ustalenie zakresu zmian w strukturze organizacji gospodarki magazynowej w hutach dawniej i dziś. The article presents essential functions of stores in metallurgical industry. The functions were characterized on the base of both literature study and case study. The practical part was realized on the base of historical analyse of changes in steelworks plants. By comparative analyse the former and present organizational structure of stores in steelworks plants were presented. Both theory and practice increase knowledge about purchasing and supply management in manufacturing enterprises.
