The article is a voice in the contemporary discussion on the relation between industry 4.0 and ERP systems. It presents the definition, importance and evolution of the integrated information systems in the production enterprises. It also briefly describes the computer systems in the engineering aided area - CAx. The following part deals with information tools development resulting from the growing needs of their users and increasing technical infrastructure possibilities. At the end, the article presents the relationship between ERP systems and the Industry 4.0 idea and describes the challenges waiting for the information systems producers.
