The effect of the cerium ingredient on the activity of monolithic catalysts for removal of carbon oxide and hydrocarbons from flue gases
The influence of the Ce (IV) oxide ingredient on the activity of monolithic powdered 0.15% Pt, 0.04% Rh catalysts during oxidation of carbon oxide and hydrocarbons carried by flue gases have been investigated. The concentration of platinum in the ceramic powders amounted to 35.2% and 51.4%, whereas that of rhodium totalled 14.0% and 23.5%. Ce (IV) oxide was found to improve the efficiency of hexane and toluene oxidation on one hand and to decrease the efficiency of carbon oxide combustion on the other hand. This undesirable effect can be abated, using ceramic powders with increased noble metal concentrations.
