Przeprawa tunelowa bądź mostowa przez Martwą Wisłę w planowaniu rozwoju sieci ulicznej Gdańska była od wielu lat traktowana jako element warunkujący jakościową zmianę funkcjonowania tej sieci. Obecnie budowa tunelu pod Martwą Wisłą stwarza nowe perspektywy nie tylko dla obsługi transportowej terenów przemysłowo-portowych, ale także dla przejęcia części ogólnomiejskiego ruchu z przeciążonych tras obszarów śródmiejskich.

In the planning of road network development in Gdańsk, a tunnel or bridge crossing the Martwa Wisła has for many years been seen as an essential element for improving the quality of functioning of that network. The building of a tunnel under the Martwa Wisła now creates new prospects not only for transport services to the industrial and port areas, but also for the removal of some of the city’s overall traffic from overloaded city centre routes. This is confirmed by forecast traffic volumes for the tunnel and for neighbouring roads.
