Signal Preparation for the Method of Principal Components
One of the methods of developing models to diagnose and predict the defect stage is the correlating of the objective technical stage with the vibroacoustic signal diagnostic parameter. The evaluation data to be correlated, which is usually complicated, should be analyzed well. The principle components analysis offers an approach for linear transformation of variables so that the redundant information is reduced and characteristics of the signal are more easily extracted. The element chosen for the investigation presented in this paper is a gear. The presented method avoids the need for creating an analytical model which is time consuming and costly. It is possible to estimate the type and stage of defect to any gear vibroacoustic signal from the objective parameters of the specially prepared signal without introducing simulation models.
