The role of the Vistula Delta and Żuławy region waterways has been changing for years. People rebuilt natural landscape and created unique regional heritage. Nowadays hydrotechnical buildings, locks, drawbridges and ports are restored. This is a challenge for architects, engineers and government because of environmental problems, flood protection and ecology. The difficulty is the position below and above sea level and understanding how it influenced the lifestyle. After Second World War, cultural diversity, disunderstanding cause many devastation. Since that time lack of location identity and knowledge of geomorphology has still lingers on this part of the Polish country. It has been proposed that restoring of rivers in tourism, social life, public spaces connected with water help in feeling of regional identity of inhabitants.
