The Economy of Croatia and the State of Textile and Clothing Production

An analysis is presented of the present state and future prospects of the textile and clothing industry. The problems of the Croatian economy originate from the years of communist economy and the consequences of the 5-year war. The state of industrial production, the possibilities of their reconstruction as well as import and export relations in the period from 1992 to 1996 are analyzed. The necessity is underlined to comply with these criteria which should be fulfilled in order to maintain market competitiveness and which exist on the West European market.

W artykule przedstawiono analizę współczesnego stanu przemysłu włókienniczego i odzieżowego w Chorwacji oraz prognozy na przyszłość. Problemy ekonomiczne Chorwacji mają swoje źródło w postkomunistycznej gospodarce oraz skutkach 5-let- niej wojny. Skrótowo omówiono produkcję przemysłową, możliwości jej restrukturyzacji, jak również import i eksport w latach 1992-1996. Zwrócono uwagę, że dla sprostania konkurencji na rynku światowym istnieje konieczność kierowania się tymi samymi kryteriami, które stosują powszechnie producenci zachodnio europejscy.
