Problemy bezpieczeństwa i sztuki wojennej w polskim piśmiennictwie wojskowym okresu odrodzenia

The author has presented the problems of security and the art of war in Polish military publications from their beginnings until the Renaissance. Analysing the basic works of leading representatives of Polish military thought (such as Stanisław Łaski, Jan Tarnowski, Albrecht Hohenzollern, Marcin Bielski, Florian Zebrzydowski, Stanisław Sarnicki) and also social and political writers (e.g. Paweł Włodkowic, Jan Ostroróg, Andrzej Frycz Modrzewski), the author presented many particular problems relating to the art of war and security considered by the mentioned above writers. The article shows a wide range of issues describing in detail soldiers' training, tactical problems, the troops' morale and discipline, commander's role, the way to seize and defend fortresses, importance and use of different kinds of forces, marching organisation, the schedule of setting up fortified camps and many others. The author also presented viewpoints of Polish military theoreticians, practicians and writers on Poland's security in general dimension. He quoted their opinions connected with the ways of building the most effective state defence system in the time of the Renaissance.
