Roman Ingarden: O przyczynach opuszczenia Lwowa

The article concerns the causes of Roman Ingarden's decision to discontinue studies in Lviv and move to Göttingen. Ingarden presents them in Memories from Göttingen, written in the fifties, and thus from the perspective of several decades. The version he provided was accepted by all later historians who wrote about it. If the decision itself is clear, then – according to the authors of the article – its causes are not obvious at all. The philosopher’s version is questioned here, and in its place the authors suggest a different interpretation of those events. This non-obviousness is described here by the phrase “Ingarden’s puzzle”.
