The Nativity Fast in the Byzantine rite differs from the Great Lent by the fact that on most days the structure of the service do not change. However, in 2010 monks from Hamatoura monastery in Lebanon under jurisdiction of the Antiochian Orthodox Church compiled special service for this time: Nativity Fast Evening Service. It is based on the Great Compline of the Great Lent. This initiative is a rare example within Orthodoxy of creation new service that is not dedicated to new saints, but for certain liturgical period. The uniqueness comes also from the original language that is Arabic. The article analyses the service in the liturgical and theological context.
