„Dirty War” as a Counter-Insurgent Strategy. The Algerian and Argentinian Experiences

The phenomenon of the „Dirty War” is inseparably connected with the experiences of colonial violence in Asia and Africa and right-wing military dictatorships in Latin America. Behind the publicist phrase of the „Dirty War” there is a cover of the large-scale politics of the counter-insurgency and „struggle against diversion”. To analyse the concept of the „Dirty War” as a counterrevolutionary struggle of the authorities, the author shows the French experiences in the colonial Algeria during the „Battle of Alger” operation and Argentine repressions of the military junta, ruled by general Jorge Rafael Videla. Between the French and Argentine practices of political violence there is a connection of means and inspirations. To show that two events are associated with one another, the author uses the research made by such scientists and journalists like Marie-Monique Robin, Paul Lewis, and Martin Evans.
