The military conflicts in Balkans and their solutions attempts in the end of XX century
The article shows the background and course of wars fought in the Balkans since 1991. In a short historical outline, the development of the statehood in this region and the background of ethnic clashes have been presented. The reasons of the fighting outbreak in Slovenia and Croatia have been discussed in detail. On the background of selective phases of armed fighting in former Yugoslavia, the efforts of international community to stop fighting and restore peace there have been shown. A great stress in the article was placed on describing the role and tasks of international peace forces UNPROFOR and the effects of signing the Dayton agreement (1995). Also a number of threats for the peace process in the Balkans have been presented, taking into consideration the current situation in the region (e.g. the Serbs’ attitude towards arresting Slobodan Milosevic). Using foreign publications relating to the problems is also worth stressing.
