Multicuturalism and the politics of multiculturalism in North America to exemplify a group of Muslim

Współczesne zderzenie i przenikanie się odmiennych grup etnicznych, wyznań religijnych oraz subkultur, przy zachowaniu coraz mniejszych odległości między nimi, kształtuje nowy wymiar wielokulturowego zróżnicowania. Wydaje się, że znikają bariery komunikacyjne, gdyż granice i odległości nie są już problemem. Bez wychodzenia z domu możemy uczestniczyć w życiu innych kultur. Jednak uniwersalny świat obrazów nie przekłada się automatycznie na dialog i wzajemne zrozumienie. Od lat obserwujemy, jak kwestia diametralnie odmiennej filozofii życia i systemu wartości różni grupy dominujące i imigranckie grupy etniczne w zachodnich demokracjach. Problem dotyczy przede wszystkim kultur islamu przeszczepionych na zachodni grunt za sprawą imigracji. Przybysze nie wyzbywają się swojej tożsamości, przeciwnie – staje się ona kanwą, na której budują własną etniczną kulturę. W tym kontekście szczególnej ostrości nabiera problem określenia zasad współżycia różnorodnych kultur w ramach jednego społeczeństwa, będącego wytworem cywilizacji zachodniej mimo nabytej wieloetniczności i wielokulturowości. Punktem wyjścia rozważań zawartych w niniejszym opracowaniu, jest analiza pojęcia społeczeństwa wielokulturowego. Ze względu na najdłuższą tradycję imigracji i bogaty dorobek teoretyczny najwięcej uwagi poświęcono Stanom Zjednoczonym. W celach porównawczych przedstawiono także kraj „starej” migracji, czyli Kanadę. Praca porusza również zagadnienia wielokulturowości w aspekcie praw mniejszości. W rozważaniach na temat wielokulturowości nie można pominąć trudności w prowadzeniu udanego dialogu międzykulturowego i osiągnięciu wzajemnych perspektyw współistnienia. Dialog międzykulturowy miedzy mniejszością muzułmańską a społeczeństwem Zachodu stał się w dzisiejszych czasach koniecznością chociażby z perspektywy demograficznej. Reprezentanci obu rozpatrywanych tutaj, jako strony dialogu kultur powinni być żywotnie zainteresowani prowadzeniem wspólnych debat i wypracowaniem koncepcji integracyjnej.

Today's clash and blending of different ethnic groups, religions and subcultures, while maintaining the ever smaller distance between them, formed a new dimension of multicultural diversity. It seems that communication barriers are disappearing, because the borders and distances are no problem. Without leaving home, we can participate in the life of other cultures. However, the universal world of images does not automatically translate to dialogue and mutual understanding. For years, we see how the issue of radically different philosophy of life and value system is different immigrant groups and the dominant ethnic group in western democracies. The problem concerns mainly Islamic cultures transplanted to the western land because of immigration. The newcomers do not renounced his identity, the opposite - it becomes a canvas on which build their own ethnic culture. In this context, particular focus becomes the problem of determining the principles of coexistence of various cultures within a society, a product of Western civilization, despite the acquired multi-ethnicity and multiculturalism.The starting point of the considerations set out in this paper is to analyze the concept of a multicultural society. Due to the longest tradition of immigration and rich legacy of theory much attention has been paid to the United States. For comparison also shows the country of the "old" migration, or Canada.Work also raises the issue of multiculturalism in terms of minority rights. The discussion on multiculturalism can not ignore the difficulties in running a successful intercultural dialogue and mutual prospects of achieving coexistence. Intercultural dialogue between the Muslim minority and the society of the West has become a necessity nowadays if only from the perspective of demographics. Representatives of the two considered here, as the dialogue of cultures should be vitally interested in the conduct of joint discussions and elaboration of the concept of integration.
