In the mirror of photography. A picture of everyday urban life in the Meiji era based on selected photographs of Japanese photographers.

Celem pracy jest przedstawienie wyników analizy 819 zdjęć japońskich fotografów z okresu Meiji. Na ich podstawie zbadano i opisano życie codzienne Japończyków mieszkających w miastach epoki Meiji. Wyniki badań podzielono na siedem kategorii, obejmujących takie sfery życia jak: dzieciństwo, dom i rodzina, praca, otoczenie miejskie, rozrywka, religia oraz transport i podróże. Dodatkowo praca przybliża techniki badania fotografii i historię fotografii w Japonii okresu Meiji.

The goal of this paper is to present a picture of everyday urban life in the Meiji era Japan. The image is a result of research on 819 photographs of Japanese photographers of the Meiji era. The results were divided into seven main categories: childhood, home and family, work, urban environment, entertainment, religion and transportation and traveling. In addition, this paper briefly presents the use of photography as a research method and the short history of Japanese photography in the Meiji era.
