Multiculturalism of reportage - the image of Czechs and Czech Republic in the writings of Mariusz Szczygieł

The issue of the thesis is the image of Czechs and Czech Republic in the books of Polish journalist, Mariusz Szczygieł.The dissertation is divided into five chapters. In the first chapter there is a short history of Polish-Czech relations through centuries.The second chapter shows the current image of Czechs in Poland. This part of the thesis is based on the reports of Centre for Public Opinion Research.Chapter three explains the importance of a reportage as a jounalistic genre which has a big impact on the forming the image of other nations and countries. I also characterise the politics of multiculturalism which has been initiated in Canada in the 70s.The next part of the dissertation is about Mariusz Szczygieł and his writings.The last, fifth chapter includes the results of my analysis. I describe the image of Czechs and Czech Republic in three books of Mariusz Szczygieł: „Gottland”, „Zrób sobie raj” and „Laska nebeska”.At the end of the thesis there is a summary and the list of all books and other materials I have used in my dissertation.

Problemem badawczym pracy jest wizerunek Republiki Czeskiej i Czechów prezentowany w książkach polskiego dziennikarza, Mariusza Szczygła.Na pracę składa się pięć rozdziałów. W rozdziale pierwszym zawarty jest krótki zarys historii związków Polski z Republiką Czeską na przestrzeni wiekówRozdział drugi przedstawia wizerunek Czechów w naszym kraju wyłaniający się z badań opinii publicznej. Korzystałam z raportów Centrum Badania Opinii Społecznej z roku 2013, a także z lat ubiegłychW rozdziale trzecim omawiam znaczenie reportażu jako gatunku mającego duży wpływ na kształtowanie obrazu innych narodów. Charakteryzuję krótko politykę multikulturalizmu zainicjowaną w latach 70. w Kanadzie.Rozdział następny, czwarty, zawiera przedstawienie sylwetki Mariusza Szczygła.Piąty rozdział przedstawia wyniki analizy wizerunku Czech i Czechów przedstawionych w trzech książkach Mariusza Szczygła. Badam ich obraz w Gottlandzie, Zrób sobie raj i Lasce nebeskiej. W zakończeniu tego rozdziału ukazuję stanowisko autora reportaży i to, jakie podejście do kwestii czeskiej on sam prezentuje.Pracę kończy podsumowanie całości rozważań.W ostatniej części zawarłam pełny wykaz literatury, którą wykorzystałam w trakcie powstawania tego opracowania.
