Beyond the Atlantic: Evolutions on the Continuum of Polish Security Thinking

Zmiana paradygmatu, który wystąpił wraz z upadkiem reżimów komunistycznych w Europie Środkowej i Wschodniej (CEE) stanowiło wyzwanie. Oznaczało to ponowne kształtowanie polityki zagranicznej i bezpieczeństwa w krajach, które były pod obcym panowaniem dziesięcioleci. Jednak historycznie sformułowane preferencje i strategiczne kultury zostały przekazane i stanowiły kontynuację psychicznego zbiorowych wspomnień. Te preferencje i wspomnienia kierować krajów EŚW, w jaki sposób odnoszą się w nowym środowisku politycznym i w nowych relacjach z innymi jako niezależne podmioty. Spośród krajów o podobnym tle, Polska została wybrana ze względu na swój charakterystyczny doświadczenia historycznego, który nadal odgrywa kluczową rolę w nowych rozważań politycznych. Ze względu na charakter historii doświadczył w ciągu ostatnich dwóch stuleci, zagranicznej i bezpieczeństwa cechy nowego państwa stała się kluczem do zapewnienia stabilności i dobrobytu w nowym porządku świata.

The change of paradigm that occurred with the collapse of the communist regimes in Central and Eastern Europe (CEE) represented a challenge. This meant re-shaping foreign and security policies of countries that were under foreign rule for decades. However, historically formulated preferences and strategic cultures had been transmitted and represented a mental continuation of collective memories. These preferences and memories guided the CEE countries on how to relate in their new political environment and in their new relations with others as independent entities. Out of the countries with similar background, Poland was chosen because of its distinctive historical experience, which continued playing a critical role in the new policy considerations. Due to the nature of the history experienced in the last two centuries, foreign and security features of the new state became key in ensuring the sustainability and prosperity in a new world order.
