Obcość kulturowa oraz leksykultura dziecięca jako problemy tłumaczeniowe polskich przekładów The Secret Garden autorstwa Frances Hodgson Burnett

The present M.A thesis presents an analysis of the selected Polish versions of The Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson Burnett. The selected versions include two translations by Jadwiga Włodarkiewicz and one by Piotr Beręsewicz. The aim of the analysis is to identify the strategies towards the cultural distance used by particular translators and to examine culturally marked lexical items. The thesis is divided into three parts: a literary analysis, methodology and an analytic part. The basis of the theoretical part constitutes the hermeneutic theory of translation, the concept of Tertium Comparationis as a basis of analysis and description of the Polish translations in the relation to the original version, and Robert Gallison’s theory of lexiculture, on the basis of which culturally marked lexical items were examined. Monika Adamczyk-Garbowska’s theoretical model and surveys in Polish and English served as tools in carrying out the analysis. Apart from the analysis, the present M.A thesis shows that The Secret Garden took root in the Polish culture as a target culture of a translation of the book.

W niniejszej pracy analizie poddane zostają wybrane polskie przekłady powieści dla dzieci The Secret Garden autorstwa Frances Hodgson Burnett. Są to dwa przekłady Jadwigi Włodarkiewicz oraz tłumaczenie Piotra Beręsewicza. Celem analizy jest wydobycie charakterystycznych dla poszczególnych tłumaczy strategii translatorskich oraz zbadanie jednostek nacechowanych kulturowo. Pracę rozpoczyna część literaturoznawcza, następnie przedstawione jest instrumentarium badawcze oraz część analityczna. Podstawę teoretyczną pracy stanowi teoria hermeneutyczna do badania przekładu, pojęcie podstawy analizy i opisu tłumaczeń w ich relacji do oryginału, jakim jest Tertium Comparationis oraz teoria leksykultury Roberta Galissona, która posłużyła do zbadania leksyki nacechowanej kulturowo. Do analizy i opisu przekładów wykorzystany został model teoretyczny w ujęciu Moniki Adamczyk-Garbowskiej oraz ankieta leksykulturowa dla użytkowników języka angielskiego oraz języka polskiego. Oprócz analizy i opisu wybranych przekładów, praca udowadnia, że Tajemniczy Ogród to powieść, która silnie zakorzeniła się w kulturze polskiej i stała się faktem kultury polskiej jako kultury docelowej przekładu.
