Polish culture in Japan.

Tematem pracy jest kultura polska w Japonii na przestrzeni lat, od pierwszych wzmianek w XVI w. aż po dzień dzisiejszy, a także wysiłki podjęte w celu jej propagowania. Wiedza o Polsce i jej dorobku kulturalnym wciąż nie jest w Japonii powszechna, choć da się wyróżnić poszczególne okresy w historii, kiedy zainteresowanie Polską wzrastało, a Japończycy chętniej zapoznawali się z jej dorobkiem kulturalnym. Dostęp do dzieł polskich twórców został znacznie ułatwiony dzięki działalności wielu poszczególnych osób, instytucji i stowarzyszeń angażujących się w promocję Polski za granicą.Obecnie znajomość polskiej kultury w Japonii jest wciąż nikła i opiera się głównie na stereotypach. Obserwując jednak wzrost znaczenia Polski na arenie międzynarodowej, a także coraz bardziej intensywne próby promocji jej kultury, można zauważyć, że sytuacja ta zaczyna ulegać stopniowej poprawie.

The subject of this thesis is Polish culture in Japan over the years, starting from the first records in 16th century to date, as well as efforts made to propagate it. Knowledge about Poland and its cultural achievements is still not common in Japan, although it is possible to distinguish certain periods in history when the interest in Poland increased, and the Japanese people were more willing to be acquainted with its cultural achievements. The access to works by Polish artists was significantly facilitated owing to activities of numerous individuals, institutions and associations involved in the promotion of Poland abroad. At present, the knowledge of Polish culture in Japan is still faint and mostly based on stereotypes. However, when watching an increase in the significance of Poland on the international arena, and more and more intense attempts to promote its culture, we can notice that this situation is starting to improve gradually.
