AbstractThe aim of the paper is to present the identity and characteristics of the inhabitants of Upper Silesia against changes in Poland in the twentieth century. The study was analyzed movies of Janusz Kidawa Grzeszny Żywot Franciszka Buły, Lech Majewski Angelus, Kazimierz Kutz Paciorki jednego różańca. AbstraktCelem pracy jest przedstawienie tożsamości i charakterystyki mieszkańców Górnego Śląska na tle przemian w Polsce w XX wieku. W opracowaniu poddano analizie filmy: Janusza Kidawy Grzeszny Żywot Franciszka Buły, Lecha Majewskiego Angelus i Kazimierza Kutza Paciorki jednego różańca. W oparciu o przedstawienie dziejów Śląska zbadano wpływ politycznych przemian w Polsce na kulturę i poczucie tożsamości Górnoślązaków. Poprzez ukazanie Śląska jako Pogranicza zbadana została problematyka gwary jako elementu odrębności kulturowej w ujęciu zjawiska izolacji. Na podstawie filmowych przykładów przedstawiono cechy charakterystyczne dla mentalności śląskiej zarazem przełamując stereotypowy sposób myślenia. Podkreślono tu starania bohaterów na różnych płaszczyznach w obronie swoich wartości, kontrastując kolorowy folklor Górnego Śląska z jego przemysłowym krajobrazem. Praca zawiera również genealogię kulturową tego regionu na który oddziaływały przede wszystkim Polska, Niemcy, Czechy .
