Culture in the process of language learning - Christmas and Easter traditions through the eyes of foreigners

Celem mojej pracy było poznanie opinii cudzoziemców uczących się polskiego na temat tradycji i zwyczajów polskich oraz ich miejsca w nauczaniu języka. Pierwszy rozdział poświęcono przedstawieniu statusu kultury w nauczaniu języka polskiego jako obcego. W drugim rozdziale zaprezentowano wyniki badań ankietowych, które zostały przeprowadzone w latach 2011-2014 w Centrum Języka i Kultury Polskiej w Świecie UJ, a dotyczyły świąt Bożego Narodzenia oraz Wielkanocy. Wnioski płynące z badań pozwoliły stwierdzić, jakie są główne źródła wiedzy respondentów na temat świąt polskich i związanych z nimi obrzędów; pokazały także, że ich wiedza kulturowa zwiększa się wraz z poziomem biegłości językowej. W rozdziale trzecim zamieszczona została propozycja lekcji nauczania kulturowego będąca odpowiedzią na oczekiwania uczących się sygnalizowane w ankietach.

The aim of this work has been to find out what students of Polish as a foreign language think about Polish customs and traditions and where from they learn about them. The first chapter is devoted to the presentation of the meaning and importance of teaching culture in Polish as a foreign language. The second chapter presents the results of research, concerning Christmas and Easter, that has been carried out between 2011 and 2014 at the Center for the Polish Language and Culture in the World, at the Jagiellonian University. The results of the study shows what are the main sources of respondents' knowledge about Polish church festivals and related customs and their attitude towards culture learning/teaching. The third chapter includes a culture capsule lesson in which students preferences as to the subject presentation and handling were taken into consideration.
