Experiencing the invisible. Derek Jarman’s Blue: an analysis of the film and the viewer’s experience.

An analysis of the Derek Jarman’s film “Blue” and its viewer’s experience is a topic of the thesis. An author describes an abstract form of the blue screen and dramatic fragmentary narrative construction. Thinking about the view’s experience is combined with the director-main character’s death. The author proves that experiencing the death is not a main problem of the film. The most important issues are the viewer’s existence and the director’s not-existance. Jarman – bluring meanings of things and changing the viewer’s perception – makes us not follow the story of the main character, but look into ourselves, into our mind, emotions and senses.

Tematem pracy jest analiza filmu oraz doświadczenia widza Blue Dereka Jarmana. Autorka opisuje abstrakcyjną formę filmu: niebieski ekran oraz fragmentaryczną, dramatyczną konstrukcję narracji dźwiękowej. Rozważenia na temat doświadczenia widza toczą się wokół śmierci reżysera-bohatera. Autorka dowodzi, że tematem filmu nie jest doświadczenie śmierci, ale istnienia i nieistnienia, odpowiednio widza i reżysera. Reżyser – zamazując znaczenia rzeczy i zmieniając sposób percepcji zmysłowej, sprawia, że widz, zamiast śledząc losy bohatera-Jarmana – przygląda się sobie, swojemu doświadczeniu intelektualnemu, emocjonalnemu i zmysłowemu.
