Karšvar in Old and Middle Iranian period

The thesis presents an explanation of the formal and semantic change of the lexeme karšvar, which occurred in Old and Middle Iranian period. Using the diachronic analysis of said lexeme and derivatives from the root karš- I describe the history of this notion, which belonged primarily to the agrarian category, connected with ploughing the field. The analysis focused on Avestan, Middle Persian, Sogdian, Parthian and Khotan-Saka texts alongside with the other Iranian languages and reconstructed Protoindoeuropean form of the word. The paper also contains a description of karšvars, based on mythical ideas of ancient Iranians presented in remaining Avestan and Middle Persian texts.

Praca stanowi wyjaśnienie zmiany formalnej i znaczeniowej leksemu karšvar, jaka nastąpiła w epoce staro i średnio irańskiej. Poprzez analizę diachroniczną leksemu oraz derywatów utworzonych od rdzenia karš- przedstawione są losy tego pojęcia, którego pierwotne znaczenie przynależy do kategorii agrarnych, związanych z czynnością orania pola. Analizie poddano materiał awestyjski, średnioperski, sogdyjski, partyjski i sakochotański w zestawieniu z innymi językami irańskimi oraz rekonstruowaną formą praindoeuropejską. W pracy zamieszczono również opis karszwarów na podstawie mitycznych wyobrażeń starożytnych Irańczyków zawartych w zachowanych fragmentach tekstów awestyjskich i średnioperskich.
