Problem szybkości opracowania nabytków w bibliotekach

The aim of this study is to identify factors affecting the pace of cataloguing of collections in libraries. I conducted a case study of five libraries of Krakow, using participant observation, interview and analysis of the content of websites as methodological tools. On this basis, it was possible to draw conclusions that the cataloguing process is complex and individual to each institution. The pace of cataloguing of collections of large libraries are affected by: numbers of the team and cooperation, the size and sources of acquisitions, the complexity and difficulties associated with cataloguing a single copy and the time needed to accept the description in the center of shared cataloguing. The impact of shared cataloguing on the time-consuming process of creating acquisitions description depends on the library type. Academic libraries shared cataloguing contributes primarily to improve the quality of descriptions, but prolongs the process of developing. In contrast, a small library, using the ready-to-download descriptions, gain time for other tasks.

Celem niniejszej pracy jest wyłonienie czynników wpływających na tempo opracowania zbiorów w bibliotekach. Przeprowadzono studium przypadku pięciu bibliotek krakowskich, wykorzystując obserwację uczestniczącą, wywiad i analizę treści serwisów internetowych jako narzędzia metodologiczne. Na tej podstawie wyciągnięto wnioski, że proces opracowania jest złożony i indywidualny dla każdej instytucji. Na tempo opracowania zbiorów dużych bibliotek wpływ mają: liczebność i współpraca zespołu, rozmiary i źródła pozyskiwania nabytków, stopień skomplikowania i trudności związane z opracowaniem pojedynczego egzemplarza oraz czas potrzebny na akceptację opisu w centrum współkatalogowania. Wpływ współkatalogowania na czasochłonność procesu opracowania nabytków jest różny w zależności od typu biblioteki. W bibliotekach naukowych współkatalogowanie przyczynia się przede wszystkim do poprawy jakości opisów, ale wydłuża proces opracowania. Natomiast małe biblioteki, korzystając z gotowych do pobrania opisów, zyskują czas na realizację innych zadań.
